HCA HOUSTON HEALTHCARE KINGWOOD HIGHLIGHTS CONNECTION BETWEEN HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE AND KIDNEY HEALTH
Community conversation encourages residents to know their blood pressure and understand their kidney disease risk
 
KINGWOOD, Texas (Aug. 31, 2026) — HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood recently hosted a community conversation focused on hypertension and kidney disease, helping residents better understand how high blood pressure can affect kidney health and why regular monitoring is important.
Dr. Rajeev Raghavan, a nephrologist at HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, discussed how high blood pressure can affect more than the heart. Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure may damage blood vessels in the kidneys, making it more difficult for the kidneys to filter waste from the body.
Kidney disease can develop without obvious symptoms, making awareness and routine health screenings especially important. Community members were encouraged to check their blood pressure regularly, keep up with routine doctor visits, ask their doctor whether kidney screening is appropriate for them and take medications as prescribed.
 “High blood pressure can place significant stress on the kidneys, often before a person notices any symptoms. Knowing your blood pressure, staying connected with your doctor and discussing whether kidney screening is appropriate can help identify potential concerns earlier and support long-term kidney health.”  said Dr. Rajeev Raghavan .
HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood encourages community members to make blood pressure monitoring part of their overall health routine and to speak with their doctor about individual risk factors and appropriate next steps.
