This National Dog Day, HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood celebrates the therapy dogs making a meaningful difference every day
Four-Legged Friends Bring Joy to Patients, Caregivers and Families

KINGWOOD, Texas – They have four legs, wagging tails and a special way of bringing joy to the people they meet.
Barney and Lulu, two four-legged friends making a meaningful difference for patients, caregivers and families. This National Dog Day, HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood is celebrating Barney and Lulu and recognizing the important place therapy dogs have within its broader healthcare family.
For patients and families, time spent in a healthcare setting can come with many emotions. For caregivers, each day is centered on supporting and caring for others. Barney and Lulu offer something simple but meaningful: moments of connection and joy.
These specially trained companions can brighten someone’s day and may help reduce stress, anxiety and feelings of isolation.
The benefits of dogs go beyond clinical settings. Pets can offer unconditional love, comfort and companionship — and encourage us to move more.

“Barney and Lulu bring a special kind of joy to our hospital. Barney has been a therapy dog here for six years, and Lulu joined us one year ago. Over that time, we’ve seen how their presence can create meaningful moments of connection for patients, families and caregivers. Seeing the smiles they bring to people’s faces is a wonderful reminder of the difference compassion can make in someone’s day,” said Stephanie Robinson Rehab Services Supervisor.

Their presence is part of the compassionate, patient-centered environment HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood strives to create for the people it serves and those who care for them.

National Dog Day, recognized Aug. 26, is an opportunity to celebrate the four-legged companions who make a difference in people's lives. At HCA Healthcare Kingwood, it is also a chance to recognize Barney and Lulu and the joy they bring to patients, families and caregivers every day.
