Behind the scenes of patient care: HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood Celebrates Pharmacy Team during National Pharmacy Week
Pharmacists and pharmacy technicians play an essential role in medication safety and supporting patients throughout their hospital stay.

KINGWOOD, Texas —When patients enter a hospital, they often interact with doctors, nurses and other caregivers. But behind the scenes, another team plays an important role in their care: hospital pharmacists and pharmacy technicians.
In recognition of National Pharmacy Week, Oct. 18-24, HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood, part of HCA Healthcare, is shining a spotlight on the pharmacy colleagues who work across the hospital to help ensure patients receive the medications they need safely and efficiently.
From preparing medications and managing inventory to conducting safety checks and collaborating with physicians and nurses, the pharmacy team helps support patient care at every step.
“Our pharmacy team plays a vital role in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centered care, often working behind the scenes to make a meaningful difference. Our clinical pharmacists bring specialized expertise and clinical insight to complex patient care decisions, while our pharmacy technicians help ensure medications are prepared and distributed safely, accurately and efficiently. Together, their dedication and attention to detail support the care we provide to our patients every day. What sets this team apart is their commitment to continuously improving how we care for patients — embracing innovative technology, helping educate the next generation of pharmacists and collaborating to find new and better ways to serve our patients and colleagues. During Pharmacy Week, we’re proud to recognize these dedicated colleagues for the expertise, compassion and commitment they bring to their work and the important role they play in improving the lives of those we serve.” said Mallory Gessner-Wharton Director of Pharmacy
While much of their work happens outside patients' view, pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are important members of the hospital's care team.
Pharmacists review medication orders, help identify potential medication-related concerns and work alongside other healthcare professionals to support safe and effective treatment. Pharmacy technicians support this work by preparing and distributing medications, maintaining inventory and helping keep pharmacy operations running smoothly.
Throughout Pharmacy Week, HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood recognizes the dedication, expertise and teamwork of its pharmacy colleagues and their contributions to providing high-quality, patient-centered care.
The celebration also provides an opportunity to highlight pharmacy technicians, whose work supports pharmacists, nurses and physicians in delivering care to patients.
