Copy Editor & Contributing Writer (Freelance)
Help us tell the stories of our community.
Lake Houston City Lifestyle and East Montgomery City Lifestyle are premium, photography-driven community magazines. We’re looking for a gifted writer and sharp-eyed editor who loves local stories and wants to be out in the community, not behind a screen. You’ll be the voice and the safety net of both magazines: writing most of our business features and community stories, editing our other contributing writers, and keeping our tone consistent issue after issue.
Contract (1099) | Part-Time | Kingwood / Humble / Atascocita

- Write the majority of our business features and community stories (300 to 800+ words) for photography-led layouts
- Write recurring sections, including Business Monthly, City Scene, and event coverage
- Copy edit all stories from other contributing writers for grammar, AP style, accuracy, and consistency
- Source compelling local stories: businesses, events, nonprofits, families, and community news
- Interview business owners and community leaders
- Fact-check names, titles, dates, and details before anything goes to print
- Attend local events, ribbon cuttings, and community functions
- Meet editorial deadlines with our Managing Editor, who leads creative direction and layout
Who You Are
- A strong writer with a warm, vivid, local voice
- A meticulous editor with excellent command of AP style and grammar
- Naturally curious, relational, and comfortable interviewing business owners
- Self-directed and reliable on deadlines without being managed
- Someone who knows Kingwood, Humble, and Atascocita and is plugged into the community
