Serving Side by Side: Feeding Families with Purpose at H-Town Dream Center

Our latest Give Back Day brought volunteers together with a clear and meaningful mission: to feed families. This quarter, our diplomats, and a dedicated group of volunteers, called “Bobbi’s Angels,” served at the H-Town Dream Center in Splendora, where compassion meets action every single day.

For H-Town Dream Center, faith and prayer are at the heart of why they answer the call to serve. At the beginning of each volunteer event, a prayer circle forms for a blessing over the day, the people and the hearts of all involved.

From the moment we arrived, the impact of the Dream Center was unmistakable. Cars stretched down the road in a steady line, families waiting patiently for support, for relief, and for the reassurance that their community sees them. What could have felt overwhelming instead felt deeply organized, hopeful, and full of purpose.

Volunteers sort through produce to ensure quality and portion the right amount to distribute evenly to hundreds of families who come through the line.

Volunteers quickly stepped into rhythm. Stations were set, food was sorted, and teams formed to package a wide variety of fresh produce. Partnered with local farmers and the Montgomery County Food Bank, H-Town Dream Center knows how to prepare to meet the demand. The line moved efficiently to ensure every family received what they needed. With each box packed and every trunk loaded, there was a shared understanding: this work mattered.

Volunteers quickly pack up trunks with produce from every station to send each family on for a week of fresh eating.

The beauty of the day wasn’t just in the numbers, though hundreds of families were served. It was in the spirit of collaboration that carried us through. Chamber members, nonprofit leaders, and community volunteers worked side by side, united by a common goal to add value and make a difference. Conversations flowed easily, encouragement was constant, and every task, no matter how small, was treated as an important piece of something much bigger.

Various stations are established to ensure each family receives a variety of fruits and vegetables that will sustain a balanced diet for about a week.

The H-Town Dream Center embodies what it means to serve with heart. Their ability to mobilize resources, organize large-scale outreach, and meet people where they are is nothing short of inspiring. But more than that, they create an environment where dignity is preserved, where kindness is tangible, and where hope feels within reach. Standing alongside committed, long-term volunteers like “Dave” really helps you to realize that when we give of ourselves, we receive so much more. H-Town Dream Center is a source of light, life, hope and even personal growth for not only those who receive their services but for all who make it possible.

Lead volunteer, Dave, (seen here in the baseball cap) has committed himself to this cause for two years. His passion for service was evident with clear directions for all who came to help.

Our Give Back Day program continues to be a powerful reminder of what’s possible when we come together. Each quarter, our diplomats spin a wheel to select a Chamber nonprofit member to support, turning a simple tradition into meaningful impact across our region. This time, the wheel led us to an organization that is changing lives in real, visible ways.

As the final cars pulled away and the last boxes were distributed, there was a quiet sense of fulfillment among our volunteers. Not because the work was done, but because, for that day, we had the opportunity to stand in the gap for our neighbors.

This is what community looks like.
This is what it means to lead with service. And this is the kind of impact we are proud to be part of.
